Spring is finally here! After a long, cold winter the sunshine will start returning and we can't wait. We have lots to keep us busy though - we will celebrate with a College Disco next week, we have teams out competing at Sports events and we continue to complete outstanding learning. Our Beach Party Disco for students in years Prep - Six is this Thursday 10th of September. The theme this year is "Beach Party". The disco team are trying to keep it rather low key so please don't feel any pressure when it comes to choosing a costume. Items such as a hawaiian shirt, board shorts, grass skirt, flower lays, zinc cream, sunglasses, rash vest, etc are some examples. Please note that Prep and year 1 students wear their uniform to school and they can bring accessories for the disco if they choose. Please Note No BATHERS!!!

School Banking

Commonwealth Bank School Banking Update – Please Read Concerns have been raised regarding the ‘Cosmic Light Beam Torch’ reward item due to the inclusion of four button batteries that can be accessed by unscrewing the back of the torch. Whilst this reward has been independently tested and deemed to meet relevant product standards the Commonwealth Bank have made the decision to proactively withdraw this item from the School Banking Rewards Program. Parents/Guardians are requested to dispose of any ‘Cosmic Light Beam Torches’ their child may have already received as part of the Rewards Program. Students who have previously received a ‘Cosmic Light Beam Torch’ are welcome to redeem an alternative reward item.

Woolworths Earn & Learn

Well done, everyone! As of Wednesday we now have 38 040 points. Keep them coming in and let's see how many we can get! If they don't offer them to you, please ask for them. Remember they must be on the correct Woolworths Earn and Learn sheets. We have plenty of these in the library in case you are unable to print one off. Please put your name and the college name on them in the sapce provided. Just a reminder to only put the stickers in the boxes on the forms. That's 60 per sheet. If you put more on the edges they can't be counted! The promotion finishes on Tuesday the 8th of September.

Don't forget their is double points up for grabs this weekend.

Parents Cooking Class

Last Friday 28th August, we learnt how to make Bulgogi, which is a Korean beef stir fry. Thank you to one of our parents, Mijeong Kim, for teaching us. We had more people join us this time, which was great! The stir fry was delicious. Thank you Mijeong!

The group will meet again on Friday 11th September from 2-3pm. We will be supporting the homeroom teachers by laminating and cutting up resources for them to use with their students. Afternoon tea will be provided. Please meet at the office. Everyone is welcome including younger children.

5-9 News & Events

Middle Years Mural

A number of students from year 7, 8 and 9 took part in a project with Mr. Evans to create a mural for their own learning space. Over a number of weeks the students showcased their artistic skills and creativity by contributing to a large canvas painting that demonstrates the learning that happens in the senior years at Point Cook College. The project saw students sacrifice their time and show great leadership to create and finish the task.

Middle Years Bali Tour

How exciting! We are about to take off on our second Bali tour. We leave on Sunday 6th September for a 10 day tour. During this trip we will be meeting up with students from our partnership school in Singaraja, visiting the hot springs, Dolphin watching, riding bikes down the side of a volcano, attending cooking lessons, riding elephants, visiting a primary school, camping at the green School and much more. This year we have 12 year 8-9 students travelling with us and we look forward to many stories and adventures.

You can keep up with all the action on Twitter by following #pccbali2015 - we have already tweeted our first photo from our pre-tour luncheon at Nyonya House restaurant in Sanctuary Lakes. We will be posting photos and narrative throughout the trip on our website page.
