2017 College Council

I recently sent out correspondence informing the College Community of the establishment of the 2017 College Council. As indicated we had 5 parent vacancies and 0 Department of Education vacancies. As we received 5 parent nominations there was no need to conduct a ballot. I was pleased with the number of families who participated in the process and am delighted to announce the 2017 College Council as:

  • Frank Vetere - DET Member College Principal
  • Margaret Holness - DET Member
  • Kylee Brealey - Parent member
  • Stuart McCormick - Parent member
  • Lisa Karastamatis - Parent member 1 year remaining
  • Kylie Jeffrey - Parent member
  • Fraser Wright - Parent member
  • Monia Choudhary - Parent member
  • Naomi Perisano - Parent member

I look forward to working with the new College Council to ensure the provision of high level education for all students at Point Cook College. Office bearers will be elected at the first council meeting in March.

Accurate Contact Information, Student Access Restrictions & Court Orders

Unfortunately there are times when we attempt to call parents and guardians using contact numbers provided only to find that they are no longer correct. This places us and your children at potential risk. Please ensure your contact details are up-to-date. The Parent Portal on Compass, allows you to check and change your details. Please do so ASAP. Furthermore, parents are reminded that the College can only enforce Court Orders and/or Access Restrictions if your documentation is current and has been provided to the College. If you have updated information that you have not provided please do so at the office as soon as possible. If you have any concerns please contact Robyn Fincher.

Riding to School

If your child is riding a bike or scooter and wearing a helmet, please ensure the helmet secure and fitted correctly. I am glad to see so many students riding and wearing helmets however many times helmets aren’t being worn correctly which means they won’t necessarily help in the event of an accident.

In this edition of the newsletter we meet our Assistant Principals in the People of Point Cook segment.

Have a great fortnight!

Frank Vetere

College Principal

Pre-loved Uniform Sale

We will now be holding our pre-loved uniform sale on the first Tuesday of each month. Our next sale will be held on Tuesday the 7th of March from 8.15am-9.15am and from 2.45pm-3.15pm. The sale will be held in the Kitchen Portable near the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. Please note that we can only take cash payments. Items are mostly $5-$10 each. We will also have a number of worn items for $2 each.

We don't have all items of the uniform in all sizes as it depends on the donations that we receive. We are low on senior uniforms at the moment. If you have any items of uniform that are in good condition that you no longer need an please think about donating them to us. You can drop them off at the office. All of the money raised will assist families in need with their uniforms.

1:1 iPad Program

We now have well over 1000 connected devices at the College and students from years 3- 9 are bringing their own iPads to participate in exciting technology rich learning activities. Teachers plan for the effective use of the devices in their classroom and the iPads have become an increasingly necessary tool for students. The College is committed to providing equity of access to technology for all students but we cannot guarantee that an iPad is available and alternative devices will be used. If at all possible we encourage students to bring an iPad to PCC.

We will be running iPad sessions for parents who would like to know more about the use of this technology. The sessions will be held on March 23. One session will be held in the morning from 8:50am-9:50am and the afternoon session will run from 2pm-3pm go to the following link to register:

21st Century Learning - Parent Forum

We are running a parent forum this term to showcase some of the new learnings in technology our students are excited about. We will be highlighting the use of coding, the new digital technologies curriculum and the future direction of ICT at the College. Parents will have the opportunity to visit our Maker Space and try out some of the explorations children are involved in.

The forum will be held on Wednesday March 15 from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Please go to the following link to register
