Principal News

From The Principal's Desk

It has been great to see all students remain on task and embrace the excitement that the end of a school year brings. As we approach the end of year we begin to reflect on the wonderful year we have had. December is typically busy with events that bring us together and begin to make us feel festive. Having said this, teaching and learning is still our priority and we expect all members of the community to encourage students to remain on task. Teachers are finalising reports and end of year programs.

Year 12 Valedictory

Last week I had the honour of attending the Point Cook Senior Year 12 Valedictory dinner at Moonee Valley Racecourse. It was wonderful to see our 2015 Year 9 graduates finish and celebrate the end of their compulsory education. They were all so mature and it was great to hear of their success.

Year 2 and 4 Concert

On Tuesday I was joined by hundreds of families, friends and staff at the Year 2 and 4 concerts. The students were so well prepared and all shone on stage. Their performances were outstanding and the audience were thoroughly entertained. We are so grateful for the many parents and friends that helped with costumes and sets. Well done to the Performing Arts team and the Year 2 and 4 staff.

Essential Items List and Voluntary Contributions

This week you will receive correspondence pertaining to 2019 fees and charges. Each year the college works hard to ensure financial stability whilst keeping fees to a minimum, making education affordable for all. There are a number of changes that I urge you to read carefully.

Point Cook College inspires high expectations for learning that maximises engagement, progress and achievement for each student. To be able to provide students with exciting learning experiences school fees are charged. It is an expectation that all families who enrol at the college will invest financially in the education of their child/children.

In 2019, we are introducing a new online process through OfficeMax. You will be able to make one payment for both school fees and stationery through the one portal.

NB: Book packs will be delivered home and we expect all students to start the year ready to learn with the appropriate resources. If you have any questions or concerns please make contact with your relevant Assistant Principal or Nicki Sarandoglou our Business Manager.

URGENT REMINDER - 2019 Intentions

I again remind all parents that we are actively planning for 2019. School funding, class sizes, facilities, staffing and programs are dependent on student enrolments and it would be a considerable disadvantage to the College if we planned for your children to remain if in fact they are leaving. So with this in mind, it would be greatly appreciated if you informed us if you are intending to leave us at the end of the year. Please let the office or your child’s homeroom teacher know as a matter of priority.

Have a great fortnight!

Australian Mathematics Competition

On the 9th August, 256 students from Grades 3-9 participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Three students received high distinctions, forty-eight received distinctions, eighty-seven received credits, ninety-nine received proficiency and nineteen received participation awards. This is a fantastic result for our school. Congratulations to all those who participated!

If you are thinking of competing next year please read the reflection below from one of our senior students.

Not only is the Australian Maths Competition a huge academic opportunity, it also is a unique experience filled to the brim with endless possibilities and can bring nothing but achievements. For me personally, the competition was a joy to be involved with. I am truly grateful and thankful of the title ‘Best in the School’; it will become a candidly valued memory for me to carry. I would wholeheartedly encourage every student, no matter their level of skill in mathematics, to take a chance and give this competition a go!
