Frank Vetere

I hope that you are all well and beginning to feel the excitement of the end of the year.

Farwell Mr Hayes

We have had a very exciting fortnight at Point Cook College. Last Friday we farewelled Mr Michael Hayes our former and founding Principal. Students and staff gathered in the gym and we acknowledged his 40 years of service in education and in particular his wonderful contribution to Point Cook College. Our student leaders presented Mr Hayes with an Arial photo of the entire school and made a wonderful speech. Following the assembly the entire College moved outside as we enjoyed the antics of a staff versus student cricket match. In the evening we had a formal celebration with staff and friends to celebrate a great career.

International Visit

On Tuesday the college hosted a delegation of teachers and officials from Jakarta in Indonesia. Senior officials from our Department of Education and Training suggested the delegation visit our College in recognition of our outstanding Indonesian Language program. The delegation was extremely impressed with our College and in particular levels of student engagement.

Year 2 and 4 Concert

On Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the annual Year 2 and Year 4 end of year concert. Students and staff entertained family and friends at the Destiny Centre in Hoppers Crossing. As I said to the audience on the evening, I felt a strong sense of pride as every single student shone up on the stage. The excitement was palpable and both shows were of high quality and very entertaining. Again, we recognise the outstanding work of our performing arts team. I would also like to thank all parents and families for their support and in particular understanding and patience at the Destiny Centre. It was the first time we used the venue and there was considerable traffic congestion.

Essential Items List and Voluntary Contributions

In the past fortnight families in Prep to Year 5 have received 2016 Essential items list and Voluntary contributions. This list is in place of the booklist and is in line with Department of Education Policy on Cost of Schooling. Please return by the due date to avoid missing out. Students in Year 6,7and 8 will receive theirs next week.

Throughout the year we sometimes ask you to participate and support fundraising activities. Every year the College Council outlines and endorses the fundraising activities for the year. I wanted to take this opportunity to show the college community where we have allocated the fundraising dollars.

The money raised in 2014 was used to purchase a much needed stage for the gymnasium that we frequently use for performances and assemblies. In 2015 the college council has asked the student representative council to consider where they would like the 2015 fundraising funds to be allocated. The student body conducted a rigorous process and presented a proposal to purchase musical instruments to support a future school music program. This proposal was endorsed at the recent College Council.

We have just completed our review of the Uniform Policy which will be ratified by College Council this week. Information regarding the policy and student expectations will be available on the website at the end of the week and I ask all families to read the information carefully in preparation for 2016.

We have a very busy 3 weeks remaining. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

P-4 News

On Friday the 18th December, we will be holding a final formal assembly for all Prep to Year 4 students. This special assembly will take place in the gym starting at 9.15am. Parents are welcome.

I know that it is hard to believe but we only have three weeks of this school year left. I urge all parents to ensure that all students wear their hats, as it can get very hot at this time of the year. School finishes on the 18th of December and it is important that all students attend school until this date. If you are going on a holiday and will be leaving earlier, please put it in writing and give it to your child’s teacher. If your child is not returning to PCC, please notify the office staff.

Term 4 Activities Planner Updated!

PCC Council requested, on behalf of parents, that we prepare a term planner that outlines all known costs for families. We have completed this and ask that families download the pdf and use this as part of their forward planning. Notes and payments will still be organized as usual.

We will endeavour not to add any additional events or costs this term, but given this is our first forward planner, we ask for your understanding if we need to make an amendment this time around.

If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback on this initiative, please speak with a representative of the College Council or Ms Bernadette Cronin, Middle Years Assistant Principal.

Students Leaving PCC for 2016

If you have children in Prep – Year 8 who will not be returning to PCC in 2016 we urge you to notify the office as soon as possible. This information is crucial to ensuring we can plan effectively for the year ahead. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Subway Lunch

  • Friday December 11th

As with all other correspondence going digital so are the Subway Fun Lunch order forms. Download the form, fill it in and send it back to school with your child as per normal. The only thing that is changing is how you are receiving the note. We are hoping that an email to parents and carers will be more beneficial than a note not making it home. There will be order forms available at the office and homerooms if students require one. We will put reminders on social media also.

Download the order form by clicking on the "Read More" Button.

1:1 iPad Information 3-9

1:1 iPad Portal

Staff at our most recent successful Professional Development day spent time planning for the introduction of iPads across the College. It was a terrific day of learning and enthusiasm for the up coming expansion of our iPad program to cover years 3 - 9. We are able to offer parents access to an online portal provided by JB Hi–Fi that enables parents the opportunity to purchase their child’s iPad at education prices.
