Book week, (Aug 18-28) is an Australia wide celebration of books and reading. This year’s theme is "Connect to Reading" and at PCC we will be connecting to reading through fairytales. The preps will be dressing up as their favourite fairytale character for a parade. They will be reading the shortlisted books for the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s "Book of the Year", selecting their winners which we will compare to those as selected by the CBCA judges. Year 1s and the general community will get the chance to test their mettle in competitions in the classroom and in the newsletter. Prep-2 students will be invited to watch Alpha Show’s performance of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ And Years 2 through to 4 students will have an exciting opportunity to meet the Australian author Justin D’Ath, famous for his Extreme Adventures and Mission Fox. Sam Fox : Extreme Adventures will be coming to Channel 10 later this year. Justin will explain the book writing process from the initial idea to the published product giving hints to our budding “Writer’s Notebook” writers along the way. There will also be an opportunity for students to purchase copies of Justin D’Ath books which will need to be pre-ordered to give Justin a chance to personally autograph them. More information on this and all the other events will be communicated throughout the term.
