Community Gardening Group

Hi all,

Our fortnightly gardening session in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden is on again this Wednesday the 30th May at 9am. You don’t need to know anything about gardening to come along, this is a chance for you to make new friends and build community relationships. You do however require a Working with Children’s Check, which is free for volunteers and easily applied for online.

This program will continue to run fortnightly on Wednesday mornings from 9-10am. This session we will focusing on flowers in the garden. We will be learning about bulbs and planting some bulbs and seeds to grow on in the greenhouse.

Please let me know via email if you are interested. My email is: sarahmoore@pcc.vic.edu.au

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you all.

Sarah Moore

Opportunities for families at PCC!

There are many ways that parents, carers, grandparents and friends can be involved at PCC.

Please read below for further information about the opportunities we currently have available.

Parents and Friends Association (PFA)

The group meets every second Tuesday from 2-3pm with a focus on how to support our College programs, ways to engage families and the community with our College and also assist with our fundraising activities. Younger children are also welcome at these meetings. Our PFA also coordinate rosters of volunteers for our Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls and support events such as the Twilight Market, Student Disco and Family BBQ & Activities Night.

For more information please contact pfa@pcc.vic.edu.au

Community Gardening Group

The gardening group meet every fortnight on a Wednesday morning from 9-10am with our Gardening Specialist, Sarah Moore. You don’t need to know anything about gardening to come along, this is a chance for you to make new friends and build community relationships while learning about gardening.

For more information, please contact sarahmoore@pcc.vic.edu.au

Book Fair and Library Support

Volunteers are able to support our library by helping with tasks such as shelving or covering books. We also have our annual Book Fair where we require support from volunteers before and after school from the 5-8th of June.

If you are interested in helping in the library or at the Book Fair please contact Sonja, our librarian, at faust.sonja.s@edumail.vic.gov.au

Walk and Wheel Wednesday As part of our involvement in the Wyndham Active Travel Schools Program, we run Walk and Wheel Wednesdays each week, to encourage families to actively travel to school. Students who actively travel to school by walking or riding, and who also display our expected behaviours (being safe, responsible, respectful, learners) receive a House token and sometimes also a raffle ticket.

We currently have staff and students leaders who hand out tokens each Wednesday but we would like to extend this opportunity to parents too. If you are available to help between 8.15-8.45am on a Wednesday morning please contact Rebecca Thornton at rebeccathornton@pcc.vic.edu.au

Bilingual Book Program

Almost 50% of the students at our school, speak a main language other than English at home. We encourage our families to maintain their home language as it is important for their child to communicate with family members and creates opportunities for work, study and travel when they are older.

Our PCC families speak almost 60 different languages! We have a range of bilingual books that we use to support children and their families so that they can enjoy reading together at home. We would like to expand the number of languages that we currently cater for, so we are looking for parents who are able to translate picture storybooks from English into your home language. If you are able to assist us with this or if you would like further information please contact Chris Durbridge at durbridge.christine.d@edumail.vic.gov.au

To volunteer at PCC, you will need a valid Working with Children Check. The Working with Children Check is free and it’s easy to apply. Go to http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/ and register as a volunteer. When you receive your card in the mail, please take it to our administration staff who will photocopy it for our records.

If you would like assistance to apply, please contact me to arrange a suitable time.

Our fortnightly gardening session in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden is on again this Wednesday the 16th May at 9am. You don’t need to know anything about gardening to come along, this is a chance for you to make new friends and build community relationships. You do however require a Working with Children’s Check, which is free for volunteers and easily applied for online.

This program will continue to run fortnightly on Wednesday mornings from 9-10am. The first session was on herbs and as we have had a positive interest by new members of the community, the focus will be about herbs again. I am hoping that we will be able to create new plants and collect seeds that can then be donated to the West Welcome Wagon for families in need to start their own gardens.

Please let me know via email if you are interested. My email is: sarahmoore@pcc.vic.edu.au

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you all.
