1-1 iPad Program

1-1 iPad Program

Point Cook P-9 College has a BYO Parent funded iPad Program for our year 7-9 students. In 2016 we extended this program to include students from year 3-9. The iPad is an essential learning tool for your child and it will be integrated into all teaching and learning programs within the College.

At the beginning of each school year students are provided with a list of recomended apps, both paid and free, which are to be downloaded onto their iPads.

Point Cook P-9 College has made significant investment in the success of the 1:1 iPad program through teacher professional development and continual network upgrades. We appreciate the fantastic parent support we have had with the program so far and look forward to it continuing.

*Please note while this is a BYOD program the required device is an Apple iPad not any other tablet make or model.

If you have and enquires about the 1:1 iPad program at Point Cook P-9 College please contact Daryl English or your child's classroom teacher.

iPad Day 1

It is important to begin your family's use of technology with clear expectations from day 1. We strongly recommend that the iPad is used in clear view of the family at all times and that it never enters the bedroom. Studies suggest that the use of screens prior to settling down for the evening can interfere with the sleep process. The iPad is an educational tool not a substitute teddy bear. The children will not be using the iPad at recess or lunchtime

Restrictions

You may wish to set restrictions on your child’s iPad. Watch the video below as it explains how to activate these features and how it might work for you and your family.https://vimeo.com/148206787

Apple Care+

AppleCare+ for iPad provides up to two years of expert telephone technical support and additional hardware coverage from Apple, including up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a A$65* service fee.

Apple Care+ can be purchased up to 60 days after the initial purchase date of your iPad. Approx cost of Apple Care+ is $129 for 2 years coverage. This is something to consider as it costs approximately $130+ to replace an iPad screen.

AppleCare+ provides repair or replacement coverage, both parts and labor, from Apple-authorized technicians. Service coverage includes the following:

  • Your iPad
  • Battery
  • Included USB cable and power adapter
  • AirPort
  • Coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling of your iPad, each subject to a A$65* service fee
*(price taken from Apple website August 2017)

Charging
It is essential that all student iPads come to school fully charged. Students will not have access to charging facilities unless teacher permission is approved. The iPad Air 2 has a 10 hour battery life.

Family Share

Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in your family to share each other’s iTunes, iBooks and App Store purchases without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending straight from a parent’s device. Family Share also allows parents to create an account for a child under the age of 13 years old.

Ask to Buy is a feature of Family Sharing, and the family organizer can turn on “Ask to Buy” for any family member who isn't an adult. When a family member initiates a new purchase or free download, a request is sent to the organizer if "Ask to Buy" is turned on.

Cybersafety at the College

We have a carefully planned eSafety curriculum at the College which begins at Prep. Our students are introduced at age appropriate levels to concepts such as password safety, cyberbullying, digital footprint, phishing, sexting and staying safe online. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has some excellent resources to support parents as well. iParent - eSafety Commissioner

Protective Cases

Point Cook College recommends you invest in a strong rubberized iPad case with corner protection. When an iPad is dropped it is most likely going to make impact with the floor and possibly crack the screen. A good case can limit the impact and in most cases protect your iPad from cracking.

There are a number of “military grade” cases on the market. The Griffen Survivor case has been a popular model.
