On Monday 14 May, 15 students across years 7-9 took part in a ‘Basic Umpiring Course’ run by AFL Victoria.
Throughout the day our students learnt how to communicate using whistles, voice and hand signals in order to communicate effectively on a big and busy football field. For some of our students it’s an experience in itself, for others the next step is connecting with the WRFL and perhaps boundary umpiring on the weekends for pocket money.
Congratulations to our first group of students leading the way, managing to overcome their nerves umpiring their very first AFL Auskick match during half time at Etihad Stadium on
Sunday. A great way to start, and an awesome ‘once in a lifetime’ leadership opportunity. Our students did an amazing job with the younger children demonstrating great leadership and communication on and off the field.
The rest of our students are umpiring at Half Time at the following matches coming up:
Sunday 27 May (Nth Melb vs Brisbane) at Etihad Stadium
Saturday 2nd June (Essendon vs Melbourne) at MCG
Sunday 3rd June (Collingwood vs Gold Coast) at MCG
YEAR 6 SPORT
Well done to all our Year 6 students and staff on successfully completing their first round of Summer Interschool Sports last term. Unfortunately our preparation time wasn’t quite long enough due to it being such a short term.
Congratulations to Ms Gillespie and our Year 6 Rounders Team who were the winners of our Districts ‘Big Schools’ Interschool Summer Sport last Term. They will now play the winners of the ‘Small Schools’ competition- Altona Green Primary School later this term. Good luck everyone!!!
We will also be organising our girls Softball team to play off against Lumen Christi Primary School in a friendly later this Term also. Dates will be advised as soon as we can arrange this with the other Schools involved.
Training for our Winter Sports has well and truly commenced, with our Year 6 students practising each Thursday morning with their respective coaches. Hopefully the cold and wet weather doesn’t interfere too much with the program. Fingers crossed!
Students will take part in an upcoming round robin day against other schools in our district.
Wednesday 13 June- Girls Soccer (JT Gray Reserve) & Tee Ball
Thursday 14 June- AFL Football (Bruce Comben Reserve) & Mixed Soccer (JT Gray Reserve)
Friday 15 June - Netball & Volleyball (Werribee Recreation Centre)
We would love to see as many parents as possible come down and support our teams!!
Good luck everyone!!
PRIMARY ATHLETICS- DISTRICT TEAM SELECTION
Due to our Primary Aths Carnival being cancelled, and to provide a fair selection process for all students, our PE team have been working with our Year 4-6 students during scheduled PE sessions, timing and measuring students in the following Athletic Events: 800m, 100m sprint, 80m hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus & Shot Put.
This has taken priority over other previous planned programs.
The College Team will be selected based on the results of these sessions with measurements compared across each age groups. Successful students will be advised and team list will be displayed on the Gymnasium window (next to basketball courts) in the coming weeks. Please be patient with us!!!!!
Please note the Interschool Carnival is scheduled for Term 3.
If anyone has any questions or concerns please contact a member of the PE Team.
