The term 2 focus areas identified for the college will be Reading and Maths. If your child has been selected to take part in the program a commencement email has already been sent to you. Our P-4 tutoring students will be working on developing their reading skills this semester. Students will be focussing on developing a range of skills depending on the needs of their groups. Students will be exposed to a variety of text types and genres for both fiction and non-fiction texts. Some of the skills and concepts which may be covered include developing students’ knowledge of comprehension skills including summarising, identifying character traits, inferring, identifying the author’s message in the text as well as critiquing the quality of different texts read. Students will also work on developing strategies to read words.
This term the grade 5 to 9 students are continuing their work on Number & Algebra and some groups are branching out to complete work on Measurement and Geometry. Students focussing on number work will be learning about a variety of concepts including developing their knowledge of multiplication and division, fractions, indices, decimals and percentages. Our students who are learning about measurement will be focussing on developing their knowledge and skills with area, perimeter, volume and capacity and utilising real-world skills to deepen their understanding of these concepts.
After School Tutoring - Special Information
Grade 5/6s who are involved in the afterschool tutoring program will be beginning or have begun their sessions. If your child is involved in the afterschool tutoring program please make sure you see your email communication as start times and dates are different for our tutors Brigitte and Jess.
