PCC Bulletin - Term 3, Week 3

This week the college practiced their Lockdown procedures. The students and staff did an amazing job following the processes. Next term we will complete another practice drill which will most likely be an evacuation. We will communicate when the drill will take place with families a week prior, so that you can support your children at home prior to us conducting the drill. Our Year 8 students are very excited to be heading off to the snow at Falls Creek next week. We hope our students have an amazing time and get plenty of snow for the trip!

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of staff secure new positions at other schools. I would like to wish the following staff all the best at their new schools:

  • Sam Healy
  • Irene O’Keefe
  • Bethany Cogger

We are still completing the recruitment process for replacing staff. We have already employed Valay Ramen for Science and the classroom teacher positions are close to being finalised.

Our Curriculum Day for Term 3 is coming up on Friday 19
th August. Please make sure you have made arrangements for care of your children for this day. The staff will be working with Leaders from the Education Department to build our staff’s capacity to work together as a team to improve students' learning outcomes in all curriculum areas.

The college has a large number of families, both students and parents, who require access to the Disability Car parks located in our staff car parks. Can I please ask all families to be considerate towards these families and their needs, and not use these allocated parking bays unless you have a Disabled Parking Permit.

An event has been placed on COMPASS for families wishing to purchase a Father’s Day gift from our Father’s Day stall on Thursday 1st September.  Students attending the 3/4 Camp that week, will have the opportunity to select their gift the week before. All Prep- 6 classes will be rostered to attend the stall throughout the day. Students who are absent on the day will be able to attend on Friday.

It is important that we ensure we are being Covid safe at the college. Where possible we will encourage students over 8 years of age to wear a mask inside and use hand sanitiser. If your child is experiencing symptoms, can we please ask that you complete a RAT test prior to them attending school.

This week families will receive Curriculum Newsletters. These newsletters will outline the curriculum being taught and any relevant upcoming events.  We hope that these newsletters will give families a better understanding of what is happening throughout the term.

Cohort Newsletters
Last term we conducted the Weekly Bulletin Feedback survey to hear what you wanted to see in the Weekly Bulletin. You have let us know you would like to see more about your child/rens year level/s, what they are getting up to in class and what is coming up. We’ve listened! As a result of the feedback, we have implemented the Cohort Newsletters which will be published twice termly, once at the beginning of the term and once towards the end! Click on the links below to view each cohorts newsletter:

Kindergarten Tours
Last week marked the recommencement of the kindergarten tours. Community Hub Leader, Maree felt privileged to escort the YMCA 3 Year Old and 4 Year Old kindergarten groups through the Point Cook College, Prep-4 area, followed by story time in the Learning Resource Centre. The kindergarteners were lucky enough to have PCC’s expert gardener, Sarah take them on a tour through the Stephanie Alexander Garden and met the college acting principal, Tracy Peters! The children were so excited to be part of PCC last week and they’re very much looking forward to attending the our College next year.

In Term 4, Point Cook P-9 College will be hosting a
Colour Explosion School Fun Run to help us fundraise for the Undercover Basketball Court. To achieve our goal, we need to raise $25000.00 as a school community.

We will be hosting our Colour Explosion School Fun Run on 02/11/2022, from (Times to be advised closer to the day) Make sure students bring a WHITE shirt to wear during the Fun Run. They will be covered in non-toxic, biodegradable colour powder from head to toe!

School's Tree Planting Day - Friday 29th July
Today as part of National Tree Planting day, held on Sunday 31st July the Green Gang students here at PCC participated in the school tree planting day. The students ranged from Grade 1/2 to 5/6 and were instrumental in determining the location for the plants. They then prepared the soil, planted the plants, watered them in, and surrounded them with tree guards for protection. The students will continue to look after the plants taking turns to water them throughout the rest of the term. We would like to thank Cushman and Wakefield our private partnership and grounds maintenance company or providing these 'bush tucker' plants which included Lily Pillies, old man saltbush and murnong and were placed in the garden beds along the walkway to the gym. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
