PCC Bulletin - Term 3, Week 4

We are halfway through Term 3 already!

The Principal Team has been working hard to fill our staffing gaps.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the following staff members to PCC:

  • Sara Murdoch will be joining the 3/4 Team
  • Edward Niu will be joining the Maths Team
  • Richard Doig and Mia Reiber will be joining the English/Humanities Team

We are excited to have these new staff members join us. I am currently working with their current principals to organise a start date. We still have a few more teachers to replace and will continue our recruitment of staff.

Congratulations to our Prep students who completed their very first 100 Days of school.  They had an amazing day celebrating and learning about time and the number 100!

Our Year 8 students had an amazing time at camp even with the extreme weather.  I am sure they all will be sleeping well tonight.

There are a few important events coming up this term which I would like to share with families. They include the following:

Book Fair:
29th August- 5th September
This is a great opportunity for our students to purchase books at a discounted price. Books are fantastic Christmas and Birthday gifts to help develop the love of reading in our students.

Book Week

The theme for 2022 is Dreaming With Eyes Open.  This theme is about stepping into your own story, dreaming with eyes open, listening to Country as the first storyteller and learning from friends who help you on your way.

We will be holding a Book Week Parade on Monday 15th August where all Prep - 9 students will be invited to come to school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. Sub School Principals will share further information shortly.

Colour Run:
Our Colour Run is booked!!! On Wednesday the 2nd November, all students will participate in the PCC Colour Run. This is our college’s biggest fundraising event for the year! Our aim is to raise $25,000 which will go towards our new undercover Basketball court and fitness area!

Students will receive their sponsorship booklets soon. They also have the opportunity to win some amazing prizes.

We will thoroughly appreciate your support in backing this major fundraising event.

2022 Principals Day
To celebrate Principals Day at Point Cook P-9 College, our fantastic students made a video dedicated to our four dedicated and passionate Principals, Tracy, Jenni, Nicole and Robyn. Our staff also put together a card to thank our Principals for their tireless efforts in keeping our College operating at such a successful level, consistently proving their commitment to our community and putting everyone before themselves!

Visit the Point Cook P-9 College Facebook page to read the lovely messages from staff, view the video from our students (and have yourself a bit of a laugh) and to share your own messages to our Principal Class Team.

First 100 Days of Prep
Monday marked our Preps’ first… 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL. Our Preps, their teachers and the leadership team celebrated this big event with lots of activities involving ‘100’. We are so proud of each and every one of you. Well done Preps!

Indonesian Speaking Competition
We are very excited to announce that six of our students won in the 2022 State-wide Indonesian Speaking Competition and will receive an Award at the Awards Night at Melbourne High School on Tuesday 16 August 2022. Our college won two first places, three second places and one third place award. Please join us in congratulating the students below for their big achievements in learning and speaking Indonesian.

  • Adeline Phan - 12F (2nd - Level 1)
  • Claire Genevieve Hambali - 12F (2nd - Level 1)
  • Bryan Hutomo - 34B (1st - Level 2)
  • Sannvi Krishna Prakash - 34L (1st - Level 2)
  • Swayam Mishra - 34G (2nd - Level 2)
  • Daksh Sah - 34G (3rd - Level 2)

2022 Year Book
The 2022 Year Book is currently under construction and will be a celebration of everything that happened in 2022 and the various achievements and celebrations of our community and students!

The Year Book has been published on Compass as an event for all families to determine whether they’d like to purchase one for the family, one for each child, or none at all. We separated this from the school contributions this year to eliminate the chances of people missing out on a book or paying for one they don’t want. This adjustment will allow families to make an informed decision about this purchase and will receive multiple reminders to ensure everyone has the opportunity to purchase a book.

State Election - Information Session
The PCC Community are invited to attend the below information session which is an opportunity to learn how to vote and the importance of voting! This session is open to members of the community that are voting age including parents, friends, staff. The session will run during an Adult English class on Thursday 6th October, 1:30 to 2:30pm and attendees will need to check in via the College font office.

SAKG
This week in the Kitchen, Kylie and the Alcott teachers supported students to create and roll their very own Sushi, using some fresh ingredients from the garden.

We also prepared and cooked a delicious Brown Rice and Quinoa Fried Rice, paired with a sustainable and tasty Asian Greens Stir-fry which the students harvest during their garden session. As you can see by some of the kids smiles they loved the menu, and their experience in the kitchen

Year 8 Snow Camp
The Year 8 students left for Snow Camp at Falls Creek on Monday and got straight into the snow activities! Students got to go tobogganing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing all on day 1 with some snowboarding and skiing during the next couple of days. Students made snowmen and had a couple of snowball throwing competitions! Unfortunately the weather did delay some of the activities but plenty of fun in the games room was had.

The Year 8 students had a fantastic time and raved about their experiences and time spent with their classmates! Another awesome camp and adventure for our students.
