PCC Bulletin - Term 3, Week 5

We have had an extremely busy week this week with our students attending a number of events. Our Grade 1/2s have had their very first experience of a school excursion.  They headed off to Science Works with excitement! The bus ride to the excursion was filled with lots of smiles and giggles. The students and staff all had an amazing day exploring Science Works and developing their understandings of how things work and change.

Congratulations to our Year 9 Boys basketball team competed in the Hobsons Bay tournament on Tuesday. The boys finished 3rd in the competition. We also had students in Year 9 attend a table Tennis competition. All students competed with integrity and with a positive attitude.

Our Primary students from Years 3-6 attended the Primary Districts Athletic Carnival. Once again, our students demonstrated great sportsmanship and commitment in their events. The college are very proud of all of the students for making it this far.

On Monday 15th August 2022 we have our Book Week Dress Up. All students are able to come dressed in their book week costume. Our Prep – 6 students will run individual parades at each level. These will be recorded and shared with families.

Can I please remind families, when students are showing symptoms for COVID to please use the RAT tests they have been given prior to sending children to school.  It is also important that students complete their isolation period at home and not attend school until they are released from Department of Health. Parents will receive a sms which will provide families with this date.  If a child does attend school whilst they are still in isolation, they will be taken to sickbay, isolated and asked to wear a mask until they are collected from school. Please help us keep the college community safe and healthy.

Just a reminder that next Friday is our Curriculum Day. Please ensure you have made arrangements for care of your students.

Our next approved day will be Monday 5th September. This will be the college’s Professional Practice Day. Students will not attend school on this day.

We would like to welcome the following staff to our college who will be starting within the next few weeks.

My name is Sara Murdoch. I have been teaching for about 2 years but before I was a teacher, I was training to be a forensic scientist. I am passionate about teaching and learning, often trying to learn new skills outside of work - at the moment I am learning Auslan. My husband and I have been married for almost 3 years. We love animals and have 8 pets including 2 dogs, 1 rabbit and 6 birds. I am excited to join the PCC community and get to know the students and families.

My name is Edward Niu. I’m super excited to join Point Cook College as a mathematics teacher and getting involved with the athlete development program as the head of basketball academy. Previously I taught mathematics & HPE at Manor Lakes College and Camberwell Girls’ Grammar School in their year 7-12 programs. Currently, I also work as an assistant coach for the Nunawading Spectres men’s team in the NBL1 competition. Looking forward to getting started and meeting the Point Cook College community!

Have a great weekend.

2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

A random sample of approximately 30 percent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The survey results will be communicated to parents/caregivers/guardians through the School’s  Annual Report to the community. Last year we used the survey results to plan for building students' resilience and how important it was for us to continue working with The Resilience Project.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
