PCC Bulletin - Term 3, Week 10

And just like that, Term 3 is finished! It has been a very big Term at PCC with P-2 Swimming getting underway for the first time in a number of years, the Year 8 Snow Camp going to falls Creek, Year 3/4 Camp going to Lady Northcote, Book Week and many celebrations. We were also hit with a wave of Covid ripping through the college! We thank our staff and students for their compliance with our Covid safe measures to beat this wave.

As you may have seen, there have been changes to the COVID-19 Isolation requirements in Victoria. Students or Staff who test positive now only need to do a minimum of 5 days isolation instead of 7 if they are asymptomatic. If a Student or Staff member is symptomatic after day 5, it is strongly encouraged that they stay home until the symptoms have subsided.

Students would have received another round of RAT Kits this week for the school holidays and they will continue to receive RAT Kits into Term 4. We ask that families continue to utilise these RAT's, particularly if a member of your family is unwell.

Over the last few weeks we have had a couple of staff secure new positions outside of PCC and are finishing up today. I would like to wish the following staff all the best in their new endeavours:

  • Chelsy Li
  • Tori Tonkin
  • Maree Scriha
We have a number of new staff starting at the beginning of Term 4 and we look forward to welcoming them on board. Our continued recruitment drive has been very successful during Term 3 and we are almost at the point of having all positions filled which is great news heading into Term 4.

As a school, we have now raised over $8,000 through the colour run fundraiser for our new outdoor court project! The fundraiser has less than 2 months to go and there is still time for students to get into prize contention! Check out the leaderboard below!! I wonder who will be on top of the leaderboard at the end of the school holidays?

I hope everyone has a safe and fantastic school holidays and we will see you back at PCC for Term 4 on Monday 3rd October, 2022!

Red Day
On Tuesday 13th September, we celebrated Red Day by dressing in Red. Our school was a sea of red with many students and staff getting involved to support Great Strides Day and the fundraising efforts for Cystic Fibrosis. Thank you to everyone in our community who supported this cause and assisted PCC in raising $960.75!

Our Years 5-9 teachers and leaders played two Netball matches against our students in support of Red Day. They first played against Year 9s and then against Year 8 students. Both matches were vigorous and tightly contested. Our students and teachers enjoyed playing against each other in these competitive and fun games.

Green Day Fundraiser
This term the Green Gang have been working hard to improve the grounds and biodiversity at PCC. For World Environment Day, our lovely gardener, Sarah, oversaw the Green Gang planting native plants and trees in the garden beds near the canteen. Later in the term, our gardener, Nick, supported the Green Gang to build a Frog Hotel by the wetland at the front of the school to give the native frogs somewhere to safely sleep above ground.

We have also collaborated with Suzie from Nature West to plant 100 native plants around the area. The native plants chosen will encourage more native animals and birds to our grounds. The Green Gang did a terrific job moving small rocks to create a garden edge, digging, planting, mulching with leaf litter and watering the new plants.

The Green Gang are also excited to announce, 'Green Day', a special day we have created to raise awareness and funds for sustainability projects at PCC. Green Day will be on Friday the 14th of October and, as the name suggests, we invite you to celebrate the day by dressing in green, as an animal or in free dress for a gold coin donation. Funds raised will go towards purchasing small composting bins for classrooms and other sustainability projects. More details to come in Term 4!

Boardwalk Boulevard Crossing Update
The construction of the new traffic lights and intersection of Boardwalk Boulevard and Miles Franklin Boulevard has been completed and is now operational. There are now changed conditions and the existing school crossing outside Point Cook Senior should no longer be used and the traffic/pedestrian lights should be used instead. Please view the image below for reference.

This week in the SAKG kitchen, Kylie and the Alcott teachers have supported the grade 3/4 ‘s to create a Healthy and Sustainable Vegetarian Menu.

This included a Vegetarian Pizza made by each individual kitchen, a Salad of the Imagination meaning seasonal products that are ready to be enjoyed from our garden and a Potato Salad.

Our Green Salad was made up from Leafy Greens, Edible Flowers, Mandarins, Red Capsicums and Feta Cheese finished with a freshly made salad dressing. Our Potato Salad was created with a mixture of our freshly grown Potatoes, Fennel, Spring onions, Black Radishes and Asparagus finished with a light dressing.

It was great to see the students preparing and trying many different ingredients grown from our school garden.

On Thursday 15th September, our students represented Point Cook P-9 College in the Western Metro Region Athletics Finals at Keilor Park Athletics Centre with some amazing achievements.

Congratulations to the below students on their fantastic results!
