Why is the College changing the BYOD Program?
In line with updated Department of Education requirements, Point Cook College will no longer require Prep to Year 6 students to provide a personal device for learning from 2027.
Students in these year levels will instead have access to College-provided devices to support teaching and learning.
Does this change apply to all year levels?
No. The change applies to students in Prep to Year 6 only.
The College BYOD Program will continue for students in Years 7 to 9.
Does my Prep to Year 6 child need a laptop or iPad?
No. From 2027, families will not be required to purchase or provide a personal device for students in Prep to Year 6.
The College will provide access to devices when they are required for learning.
Can my Prep to Year 6 child bring a personal device to school?
The College will provide students with access to the devices required for curriculum delivery and classroom learning.
What devices will Prep to Year 6 students use?
Prep to Year 6 students will have access to school owned devices that support classroom learning, Digital Technologies and other curriculum-based activities.
Will digital learning continue in Prep to Year 6?
Yes. Digital learning will continue to be an important part of teaching and learning at Point Cook College.
Students will use technology for planned and purposeful learning activities. The key change is that devices will be provided by the College rather than supplied by families.
Will students still use digital devices at school?
Will students still have access to online learning programs?
Yes, however, there will be some changes to the digital platforms used by the College.
As part of the transition to the new Digital Learning guidelines, the College will no longer provide subscriptions to Reading Eggs, Mathletics, Essential Assessment and Education Perfect from 2027.
How will the College support digital learning without these subscriptions?
What happens when my child moves into Year 7?
Students entering Year 7 will be required to participate in the College BYOD Program.
Information about approved devices, minimum requirements and purchasing arrangements will be available on the College website.
Do Year 7 to 9 students still need a device?
Yes. The College BYOD Program will continue for students in Years 7 to 9.
Students in these year levels will require an approved device that meets the College’s BYOD requirements.
Where do I purchase a device for Years 7 to 9?
Families can purchase an approved device through the College’s designated device portal.
Purchasing through the portal ensures devices meet College requirements and provides families with access to suitable education-specific device options and support.

What if I have children in both primary and secondary year levels?
The requirements depend on your child’s year level:
- Prep to Year 6: Families are not required to provide a personal device.
- Years 7 to 9: Students are required to participate in the College BYOD Program and have an approved device.
This means a family with children across both areas may have different device arrangements for each child.
