BYOD & Digital Learning Program
As a 21st Century Learning Community, Point Cook P-9 College is committed to providing students with meaningful, safe and purposeful opportunities to develop the digital skills required for future learning and life.
Our Digital Learning Program supports students to collaborate, create, research, communicate and develop important digital literacy skills through the appropriate use of technology across the curriculum.
2027 Digital Learning Changes
From 2027, the Victorian Government is introducing changes to the use of digital devices in schools.
Under the new requirements:
- Families will no longer be required to purchase or provide a personal device for students in Prep to Year 6.
- Students in Prep to Year 6 will access school-owned devices when required for learning.
- Schools will follow recommended digital device usage times for primary-aged students.
- The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program will continue for students in Years 7 to 9.
These changes are intended to reduce cost-of-living pressures for families while supporting a balanced approach to technology use and student wellbeing.
Important Changes for BYOD Devices for 2027
Prep to Grade 6
Families are not required to purchase or provide a device for students in Prep-Year 6.
Devices required for learning will be provided by the College.
Device use will be limited to specific educational purposes and will form only one part of a balanced teaching and learning program.
Years 7 to 9
Families have three flexible options:
1. Purchase via LWT (Available in Term 4, 2026)
Purchase a College-recommended device through the Learning With Technologies (LWT) portal.
2. Purchase Elsewhere
Buy a suitable device from any retailer. The device must meet our minimum specifications.
3. Use an Existing Device
If you already own a suitable device, you may not need to buy a new one. It must meet our minimum specifications.
Please note: We do not support Android devices including Chromebooks due to limited connectivity and app availability.
Prep to Year 6 Digital Learning
From 2027, students in Prep to Year 6 will no longer participate in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.
Point Cook P-9 College will provide access to school-owned digital devices to support learning activities, Digital Technologies and curriculum requirements.
To support these changes, the College is increasing its fleet of devices to ensure students continue to have equitable access to technology when required.
Technology will continue to be used to enhance teaching and learning through:
- Digital Technologies
- Research and inquiry learning
- Creative projects and presentations
- Collaboration and communication
- Assessment and feedback opportunities
- Development of digital literacy skills
Device use will remain purposeful, teacher-directed and aligned with Department of Education recommendations.
Years 7 to 9 BYOD Program
The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program continues for students in Years 7 to 9.
Students are required to bring an approved device to school each day to support learning both in the classroom and at home.
The BYOD Program enables students to:
- Access learning resources anytime, anywhere
- Develop important secondary school digital skills
- Collaborate with teachers and peers
- Create, communicate and learn using contemporary technologies
- Build independence and responsibility for their learning tools
Device Specifications (Years 7 to 9)
Point Cook P-9 College supports both Windows and Apple devices. A Windows device is preferred as this reflects the platforms commonly used in senior secondary education and industry environments.

Please note that Android devices and Chromebooks are not supported due to compatibility limitations with some College learning systems and applications.

Digital Learning Resources
The College regularly reviews its digital learning resources and subscriptions to ensure they align with curriculum priorities and provide value for students and families.
The College provides access to a range of digital services, including:

- Google Workspace for Education
- Microsoft Office 365
- ClickView
- Adobe Creative Cloud (Years 7 to 9)
- Languages Online
From 2027, the College will no longer provide subscriptions for:
- Reading Eggs
- Mathletics
- Essential Assessment
- Education Perfect
